Exploring the Valencian coastline

I know it's been a while since I last went to the beach and posted about it. That's because it got colder and it wasn't really beach weather, but that has changed! Over the past few weeks, it has become a lot warmer here in Valencia. This Monday, it was even 32 degrees! So I took the time to explore the coast in the Valencia region a bit more.

I went to Cullera again, just because it is so nice, beautiful and easy to go to. I walked along the coastline and visited some souvenir shops, but mostly lay on the sand and enjoyed the weather.

I also went to Gandia. A town south of Alzira and Cullera. It took me a while to get there but it was so worth it. Gandia is a fairly touristy town with lots of shops and a nice port. The beach is also touristy but clean and full of shops. Definitely a town I want to go back to!

Last but not least was Castellon. This time I went north of Valencia. Castellon has many old buildings and things to see, which makes it a very nice city to walk around in. Unfortunately, I was there when they were celebrating Fallas, so the streets were full of drunk people and there were fireworks everywhere. Fortunately, the beach was quieter. It was very different from the other beaches I have been to so far in Spain. Most are touristy and landscaped, but this beach was not. It was kept as it was with dunes and lots of plants in the sand. It was still too cold to swim so that was a bit of a shame but I'm planning about going back when the Fallas are over!

Ik weet dat het al een tijdje geleden is dat ik voor het laatst naar het strand ben geweest en erover heb gepost. Dat komt omdat het kouder werd en het niet echt strandweer was, maar daar is verandering in gekomen! De afgelopen weken is het hier in Valencia een stuk warmer geworden. Deze maandag was het zelfs 32 graden! Dus nam ik de tijd om de kust in de regio Valencia wat meer te verkennen.

Ik ging weer naar Cullera, gewoon omdat het zo leuk, mooi en makkelijk is om naartoe te gaan. Ik wandelde langs de kustlijn en bezocht wat souvenirwinkels, maar lag vooral op het zand en genoot van het weer.

Ik ben ook naar Gandia geweest. Een stad ten zuiden van Alzira en Cullera. Het duurde even voordat ik er was maar het was het zo waard. Gandia is een vrij toeristische stad met veel winkels en een mooie haven. Ook het strand is toeristisch maar schoon en vol met winkels. Zeker een stad waar ik naar terug wil!

Last but not least was Castellon. Deze keer ging ik ten noorden van Valencia. Castellon heeft veel oude gebouwen en dingen om te zien, wat het een erg leuke stad maakt om in rond te wandelen. Helaas was ik er toen ze Fallas vierden, zodat de straten vol zaten met dronken mensen en er overal vuurwerk lag. Gelukkig was het op het strand rustiger. Het was heel anders dan de andere stranden waar ik tot nu toe in Spanje ben geweest. De meeste zijn toeristisch en aangelegd, maar dit strand was dat niet. Het was gehouden zoals het was met duinen en veel planten in het zand. Het was nog te koud om te zwemmen dus dat was een beetje jammer maar ik ga waarschijnlijk terug als de Fallas voorbij zijn en hopelijk is het water dan wat opgewarmd!
